Are Your Christmas Lights Still Up? Time For Spring Cleaning!

Spring has sprung and the beautiful weather is finally here! It’s time to clean the clutter that you’ve accumulated throughout the winter months (and yes, this includes the Christmas lights that you should have taken down months ago). Follow our handy spring cleaning to-do lists for your interior and exterior maintenance as well as some tips on how to organize and purge items you no longer need.

Interior Maintenance

Besides the regular cleaning that you do (dusting, vacuuming, etc.), there are always spots in our homes that we forget about.

  • Dust lights and lampshades
  • Wash walls, baseboards and touch up paint
  • Disinfect all door knobs, light switches and handles
  • Wash windows and clean window coverings
  • Dust furniture, shelves and artwork
  • Clean floor registers and vent covers
  • Deep clean and polish floors
  • Replace furnace filters and inspect a/c
  • Check smoke and CO2 alarms

Exterior Maintenance

Besides the regular outdoor maintenance that you do (gardening, lawn care, etc.), there are always areas outside that we forget about.

  • Clean gutters, inspect roof and vents
  • Pressure wash exterior surfaces and repair paint
  • Inspect doors and windows and repair caulking
  • Scrub clean outdoor furniture and inspect deck
  • Empty and inspect septic tank (if you have one)
  • Inspect foundation for cracks and ensure proper drainage

Purging and Organizing

A cluttered space can lead to much frustration but spring is the perfect time to purge! Take a few days to tackle each room of your house. Empty and sort through the items in your closets, drawers and cupboards.

When going through all the clutter, sort items into 3 categories:

  • Keep
  • Throw
  • Donate

To help with your decision, ask yourself:

  • How often do I use this item?
  • Is it something that is expense?
  • Can I easily replace it if needed?

In the kitchen, empty cupboards, panties and the refrigerator. Donate food that you aren’t going to use and get rid of anything that has expired (that jar of mayonnaise from 2007 should be quarantined). Don’t forget to clean and scrub down these areas before you put back any items.

Most importantly, seek help when you need it. Looking for carpet cleaning services, window cleaning, or gutter services? Not sure who to call? Download the Bill Parnaby Team App for a comprehensive list of reputable trades and services available right at your fingertips.
